Triad startup focused on blockchain database wins $10K in pitch competition

“Fluree PBC, a Winston-Salem startup developing a blockchain database, has won $10,000 after competing in a pitch contest at Capital Connects, a conference held by the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce’s Launch Greensboro arm.

Fluree, led by co-CEO Brian Platz, could benefit in its timing from growing interest in virtual currencies such as Bitcoin. Harvard Business Review generally defines blockchain as “an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way,” noting that blockchain is key to bitcoin and other virtual currencies.

Fluree beat out six other investor-ready companies that made pitches at the event. The company, which has been mostly self-funded, is raising money through a friends-and-family offering. “
